Survey Reveals 78% of Healthcare Executives Prioritizing Perioperative Cost Reduction Efforts

ATLANTA – November 17th, 2011 – An annual survey of hospital executives highlights the increased importance of reducing costs in the perioperative department. Seventy-eight percent of the survey’s respondents are considering or planning projects to reduce perioperative costs in the next year, a 34% increase in OR cost reduction projects since 2010. Twenty-five percent of hospitals in 2010 cited maximizing reimbursements as their top financial concern. In 2011, that number dropped by 56%. Top cited cost reduction projects focus on reducing costs of supplies, implants and tissues, standardizing supplies, and reducing waste.

Actuaries - Medical Errors Cost Hospitals Billions

ATLANTA – A recent report from the Society of Actuaries (SOA) found that medical errors cost hospitals $19.5 billion in 2008.  According to the SOA report, the top three most costly medical errors were pressure ulcers, postoperative infections, and mechanical complications of device, implant or graft. ATLANTA – Community Medical Center (CMC) has selected Surgical Information Systems (SIS) to be the perioperative systems provider for its 299-bed facility located in Scranton, PA. CMC chose the SIS Solution because of its proven ability to impact financial, clinical and operational efficiencies in the surgery department. In addition to purchasing the AHA-endorsed SIS Surgical Scheduling and HFMA Peer Reviewed Rules-Based Charging, CMC will be among the first to implement SIS Trax, a new and fully integrated tissue tracking system offered by SIS.
