St. Anthony's Medical Center Selected as SIS Center of Excellence

October 01, 2009

ATLANTA – St. Anthony’s Medical Center has been designated a Surgical Information Systems (SIS) Center of Excellence, highlighting the St. Louis facility’s ongoing commitment to best practices around the SIS Solution—particularly SIS Analytics, a powerful perioperative-focused business intelligence tool.

A 750-bed comprehensive healthcare complex with 25 operating rooms, St. Anthony’s Medical Center (SAMC) has been using the SIS Solution since June 2006.  Effective use of user-defined reports through SIS Analytics allowed the OR staff to immediately implement several successful initiatives to cut costs, improve patient safety and increase the satisfaction of SAMC’s patients, surgeons and clinicians.  Within one year of implementation, increased efficiencies enabled OR staff to increase their case load by 5%, decrease late case starts by 4%, and track compliance with key patient safety initiatives.

“At St. Anthony’s Medical Center we are dedicated to patient safety and operational efficiency.  We are proud to have been designated a SIS Center of Excellence,” said Ora Wood, Director Surgical Services, SAMC.  “A hospital’s choice of OR system is very important because it drives significant revenue and has to be operationally sound.  Surgical Information Systems has enabled our perioperative staff to enact best practices in the OR that have improved efficiencies significantly.”

SIS Centers of Excellence are nationally recognized healthcare facilities that have implemented the SIS Solution and shown commitment to the highest standards of clinical, financial and operational success.  COEs have further demonstrated use of perioperative best practices to effect turnarounds throughout the entire enterprise.

“St. Anthony’s Medical Center embodies what it means to be a SIS Center of Excellence,” said SIS Chief Executive Officer Ed Daihl.  “Their effective use of SIS Analytics, in particular, has set a high standard for what perioperative departments can do with access to actionable data for decision making.  St. Anthony’s is truly an organization that has leveraged the business and clinical potential of its surgery department.”
